The Ascension Singers are a young, five piece choir from Leeds, UK

The choir sings a broad range of repertoire, from Renaissance polyphony and well-loved choral music, to more modern arrangements of popular songs. Performances also often feature world premières of new compositions by local composers.
The Ascension Singers Are

Robert Webb
Robert Webb is the Director of The Ascension Singers, as well as singing Baritone and Alto (when absolutely necessary!). While reading Music at Oxford Robert was a Baritone choral scholar at Merton College under the direction of Peter Phillips (The Tallis Scholars), as well as playing with many ensembles as principal trumpet.
As a composer and orchestrator, Robert has worked with Ivor Novello award-winning composer Joris de Man at Abbey Road Studios, London, on the video game KillZone 2. Recently, Robert was the Bass soloist for Stainer’s The Crufixion and is due to sing Baritone in Orff’s Carmina Burana at Leeds Town Hall in June.

Jennifer Webb
Jennifer has always sung both classically and as a jazz soloist. During her time at Oxford reading Medieval English and Old Norse, she was a choral scholar at Merton College and performed as a soloist and a chorister with a number of groups, most notably in Mozart Requiem in Christ Church Cathedral. Whilst at university, Jennifer made recordings and toured with choirs, singing in cathedrals and concert venues around the UK and in Paris and Vienna. Since graduating she has returned to Leeds as a teacher and currently directs the sacred chamber choir at The Grammar School at Leeds.
As well as singing with The Ascension Singers, Jennifer is a visiting member of St. Peter’s Singers based at Leeds Parish Church and sings with the Pinsuti Chamber choir based in Ilkley, with whom she recently sang Mendelssohn’s ‘Hear My Prayer’ in Christ Church, Skipton. As well as providing beautiful soprano vocals, she is The Ascension Singers choir secretary handling the administrative side of organising concerts, as well as keeping all the boys in check during rehearsals! If you would like the choir to sing at your event or occasion Jennifer would love to hear from you!

Adam Piplica
Adam started singing from a young age , achieving nation-wide success with solo performances in concert venues throughout the UK, as well as on recordings and television broadcasts.
Adam had a Choral scholarship at Leicester Cathedral and since graduating has continued to perform in concerts and broadcasts around the world with recent performances in Tokyo, Paris and London. When he is not singing with the Ascension Singers, Adam keeps his vocal cords occupied by touring English cathedrals with the Rivelin Singers, recording and broadcasting with the Exon Singers, and singing with Ecclasia, another Leeds-based chamber choir.

Toby Ward
Toby started his musical career at the age of 10 as a boy Treble with the Choir of Leeds Parish Church, where he now sings as a Tenor Choral Scholar. With the Choir of Leeds Parish Church he has sung solo works across the country, in particular King’s College Chapel, Leeds Town Hall, and St Paul’s Cathedral. As well as studying singing with Paul Dutton, he also studies the Organ under Dr Simon Lindley and David Houlder, which is something he will continue come September as Organ Scholar of Leeds Parish Church, during his gap year.
Since finishing his final A-level exams this summer, Toby has begun singing in the capacity of solo tenor across West Yorkshire and further afield; namely The Gondoliers with the Overgate Hospice Choir and Howells’ Requiem with the Sheffield Bach Choir. He will sing Bach’s Mass in B minor at the Fulneck Baroque festival in August with the National Festival Orchestra.

Richard Cressall
Richard started singing as a boy in his local village church and has been singing ever since. Although he made a token effort to play the violin, playing in Leeds Youth Orchestra for three years, at university it became clear that singing was his major musical diversion. He sang in the choir of Exeter College, Oxford University and subsequently was a Lay Clerk at Leeds Parish Church during his postgraduate studies.
Richard's career then took him to London, where he diverted his attention from the law by spending weekends in Wells Cathedral and helping out in other choirs whenever he could. He is now back in Leeds and, when not singing with the Ascension Singers, can be found either singing at Leeds Parish Church, at work, or in the pub/eating curry.
The Ascension Singers are in demand and available for weddings and other events in Leeds and in the surrounding area. Please contact the choir secretary, Jennifer Webb at info@ascensionsingers.com
